Suubi Plantation was born out of a desire to transform Uganda’s agricultural industry and motivate young women and girls to believe they can become successful large-scale farmers in traditionally male-dominated sectors. Founded by Theresa Nabuule and Reginah Ssanyu in 2020, the sisters wanted to inspire a new generation of women and youth to engage in agriculture as a viable and impactful career path.
Once regarded as the “breadbasket of Africa,” Uganda has a rich agricultural tradition. Still, in recent years, the sector has faced challenges such as a lack of access to capital, modern farming technologies, and skilled labor. It has also been affected by a growing number of young Ugandans opting not to pursue careers in agriculture. These issues have adversely affected Uganda’s ability to meet its full agricultural potential, and the negative impact will continue to happen unless we can begin to strive to turn things around.
Our farm is located in the Mityana Town in Kampala and produces some of the region's highest-quality pigs, coffee, and matoke. We are part of a growing movement of farmers who seek to restore Uganda’s full agriculture prominence in a sustainable and holistic way. We therefore take pride in utilizing a combination of traditional and modern techniques to ensure that the soil remains healthy, and water resources are effectively utilized.
Our mission is to improve and expand the production of pigs, coffee, and matoke for local and regional markets, while integrating modern farming technologies and ethical agricultural principles. We are committed to sustainability, environmental conservation, and providing livelihoods for our employees and communities.
Our vision is that we will become number one producer of pigs, coffee, and matoke in Uganda, and to expand into value-added products for both local consumption and international export while providing advance training and employment for Uganda’s youth.
